Questions answered
What we cover, how to pitch, screeners and reprints, how often we publish and how to reach an editor.
What does SFlix cover?
SFlix writes about Japanese cinema with a particular love for the samurai film — the jidaigeki and chambara traditions — alongside the New Wave, yakuza pictures, anime features and contemporary festival work. We cover new releases, restorations and the history behind them.
Can I pitch an essay or review?
Yes. We read every pitch that comes through the Contact page. Send a short paragraph on the film or idea, the angle you want to take and a line or two about your writing. We reply to the pitches we can take on first, but we do read them all.
Do you accept review copies or screeners?
We do. Distributors and festivals can offer screeners and press materials through the Contact form. We cannot promise coverage of everything we are sent, but we log every title and consider it for an issue or a web review.
How often do you publish?
A new issue lands roughly once a month, with shorter reviews and notes published on the site in between. Subscribers get the issue by email; everything is readable on the site as well.
Can I reprint or translate a piece?
Usually yes, with permission and credit. Write to us with the piece you have in mind and where it would appear. We are generally happy to say yes to non-commercial and educational use.
Do you run advertising?
No. SFlix is reader-supported and carries no advertising or sponsored posts. That independence is the point — our only obligation is to the reader and the film.
How do I report a correction?
If you spot an error in a review or essay, send the piece, the line and the correction through the Contact form. We correct the record and note substantive changes at the foot of the piece.
How do I reach an editor?
The fastest route is the Contact form, or [email protected]. We read everything that lands and usually reply within two working days.
